generators

WEG understands the needs of an industrial electrical system. This understanding comes to bear in its myriad of products including generators for many applications. WEG provides G Plus Line generators for stand-by power, continuous duty or peak hours applications as well as turbo generators and hydrogenerators for power and utility companies. WEG brings to bear its engineering strength, manufacturing prowess and strict quality assurance to provide the best possible product to their customers.

Synchronous Alternators – G Plus Line

Available in models up to 4200 kVA, the alternators of the G Plus line are used mainly in application of diesel or gas generator groups. They are also able to operate with steam or hydraulic turbines. They operate in all types of emergency generator groups, peak hours or continuous operation in the areas such as Industrial, Commercial, Naval, Telecommunications, Mining, Irrigation, Hospitals, Rural Areas and Airports.

The G Plus Line has low voltage options from 110 to 690V and high voltage from 2300 to 13800V. The generators are available with Class H Insulation for low voltage options and Class F for high voltage. G Plus Line alternators are IP21 standard, but can be requested with IP23, IP21W, IP23W, IP44, IP44W, IP54, IP55 or IP55W ratings.

Certifications

WEG’s quality system is certified as per the requirements of the standard ISO 9001 and ISO 9001/14001. The quality system is audited and certified by the Bureau Veritas Quality Institute. In order to operate in the most demanding markets, the synchronous alternators are certified by important institutions such as C.SA. (CANADIAN STANDARDS ASSOCIATION), C.E. (EUROPEAN COMMUNITY) and UL (UNDERWRITERS LABORATORIES). In the naval version, WEG synchronous alternators can be supplied, under request, with certification from bodies like: the Canadian Standards Association, Lloyds, Bureau Veritas, ABS, Germanischer Lloyd, DNV and others.

Manufacturing resources

WEG has state-of-the-art equipment which is used is all the steps of the manufacturing processes, from the casting and stamping of parts to the enameling of wires and packaging, resulting in efficient products and proven quality.

Machining

WEG has a shaft machining center and a cast part machining center where the highest manufacturing process standards are used, which ensures the quality and precision of the components manufactured.

Impregnation

Developed with the latest technology, the impregnation system by continuous flow is normally used by WEG for low voltage winding, ensuring perfect insulation and protection. Besides the impregnation, the static windings receive a protecting coating as an additional protection against infiltration of humidity, dust, etc.

Dynamic Balancing

The rotating part (rotor) is dynamically balanced with greater precision than that required by the standard IEC 60034.14 or ISO 2372, ensuring minimum levels of residual unbalance.

Construction

WEG alternators are made according to the requirements of the standards NBR5117, VDE0530 – part 1, IEC 60034.1. Using the best quality standards during manufacturing, the result is safe operation and great durability.

Turbogenerators and Hydrogenerators

In conjunction with world renown consultant companies, WEG developed complete industrial solutions for generation and energy distribution, and offers internationally recognized quality and state-of-the-art products. Modern concept, outstanding performance and long lasting lifetime are some of the features included in the WEG Turbogenerators and Hydrogenerators, which are widely used by Power and Utility Companies.

WEG Turbogenerators are available with outputs up to 62,500 kVA and voltages up to 13,800 V. They are available with IP ratings from IP23 to IP65W. WEG Hydrogenerators have outputs up to 200,000 kVA with voltages up to 13,800 V. Hydrogenerators are also available with a range of IP ratings from IP23 to IP65W. WEG Hydrogenerators can be mounted horizontally or vertically.

Design

WEG Turbogenerators are designed with advanced software, which were developed in conjunction with Universities of Europe, USA and Brazil, ensuring high accuracy along with cost reduction and superior efficiency.

Certifications

WEG have accreditation for a Quality System in accordance with ISO 9001 and 14001 requirements. The quality system is audited and certified by the Bureau Veritas Quality Institute. To meet the world’s most demanding markets, WEG generators bear most certifications by internationally recognized certifying entities.

Technological Capability

WEG have a complete control of the analysis, understanding and optimization process of electric machines under normal and transient service duty. Additionally, the company has made heavy investments to build a modern testing laboratory with full load capacity up to 20,000 kVA. Testing voltages are available for the full range from 220 V up to 15,000 V. The testing lab is fully computer monitored and controlled for extreme accuracy.

Winding

The coils manufactured by WEG Maquinas are specially designed and specified for the voltage and application the generator is intended for. In voltages ranging from 2.3 kV to 15 kV, the coils are built with rectangular copper wire, form-coil and totally mica tape insulated. Conductive and semi-conductive tapes are also used to insulate the coils allowing a grounding system with the stator for an improved resistance to corona effect.

VPI System

Developed with most recent insulating technologies, the VPI (Vacuum Pressure Impregnation) system used by WEG as its standard impregnation system, guarantees a high quality insulation and stator coil protection for all generators. Applying a special epoxy based resin this system provides a Testing Laboratory perfect insulation to the generator protection process, which has no emission of harmful gases to the environment. Known worldwide by its thermal dissipation capacity along with state-of-the-art technology, the rectangular form-coils are manufactured with WEG VPI system and ensure outstanding quality and high efficiency to the insulation process used by generator manufacturers.

Balancing

All rotors are dynamically balanced at the generator operating speed. The standard balance is in 2 planes but WEG have the capability of 3 plane balancing: normal, reduced and special. The balance is computer controlled and capable of meeting very low vibration levels. A well-performed balance results in a long bearing and generator life together with a significant noise reduction.
